Mona was born in 1965 in Cairo, as the daughter of an Egyptian father and a Czech mother. She went to school in München and studied in Berlin (communication degree at the academy of advertising). After her start in the fashion industry – working as a assistant stylist for Cosmopolitan magazine – Mona was drawn to the advertising business. She worked as a script writer for various German advertising agencies, before eventually getting sucked into the world of filmmaking. For more than six years she operated as an assistant director, shooting features, as well as commercial film and working together with directors like Jean Paul Seaulieu, Detlev Buck, Sönke Wortmann, Niko Caro and Roman Kuhn. Mona has been directing since 1997 and is regarded as a trailblazer. Being one of the first successful female commercial directors in Germany, she now is being represented throughout Europe and the United States.
